This medication reduces the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adults with cardiovascular disease risk factors and diabetes patients, while also reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as vascular intervention or angina. Additionally, it helps lower the hospitalization risk for non-fatal myocardial infarction or fatal stroke due to congestive heart failure in patients who already have coronary heart disease. Furthermore, this drug decreases total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels, while increasing HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, thereby improving lipid levels in the blood. It is particularly used for patients with high serum triglycerides or dysbetalipoproteinemia, and is effective in improving lipid levels in pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia who do not respond to dietary management. In summary, this medication is used to protect vascular health and reduce risk in patients with various cardiovascular disease risk factors and dyslipidemia.
