This medication is used for the treatment of myocardial ischemia caused by hypertension, stable angina, and variant angina related to vasospasm. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of hospitalization due to angina in patients with coronary artery disease who do not have heart failure and have normal cardiac output, as well as the risks associated with coronary revascularization. Thus, this drug is effectively used to improve various symptoms of cardiovascular diseases.

Precautions

It is very important that this drug is not used in certain patients. This medication should not be taken by those who are allergic to this drug or similar medications, pregnant women, and breastfeeding women. Patients in cardiogenic shock, those with severe cardiac valve issues, unstable angina patients, and those who have recently experienced myocardial infarction should also avoid this drug. It may also be risky for patients whose heart is very weak, those with severely impaired liver function, and those with hypotension. Furthermore, patients with a genetic issue preventing them from digesting lactose should avoid this medication. Patients with severe renal dysfunction, elderly patients, those with acute heart failure, patients with rapidly elevated blood pressure, and those with moderately to severely decreased liver function should use this drug cautiously. Taking this medication may cause side effects, with the most common symptoms being flushing, feeling warm, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headache, dyspepsia, drowsiness, and ankle edema. Rarely, dry mouth or excessive sweating, significant hypotension, severe dizziness, neurological symptoms, skin rash, and liver dysfunction may occur. If these symptoms are severe or suddenly appear, a doctor should be consulted immediately. This medication may worsen symptoms if stopped abruptly, so do not stop taking it without a doctor's guidance. As this drug is metabolized in the liver, dose adjustments are necessary for patients with impaired liver function, and the effect of gradual blood pressure reduction may persist even after taking the medication. Caution is advised when used in conjunction with other antihypertensives. Due to its slow onset of action, this medication is not suitable for acute angina. When taking this drug, it should be consumed with plenty of water, and activities such as driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided if dizziness or drowsiness occur. This drug may interact with other medications, particularly certain antibiotics, antihypertensives, antidepressants, alcohol, grapefruit juice, etc., and caution is necessary. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid this drug as its safety has not been established, and those who are breastfeeding should stop nursing. For children, it is recommended for use only in those over 6 years of age, as safety and efficacy have not been established in children under 6. Elderly patients should start at lower doses as the drug may remain in the body longer and have higher plasma concentrations. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension may occur, necessitating immediate medical attention, and blood dialysis will not be effective. This drug should be stored out of reach of children, and it is safer not to transfer it to other containers.
