Improvement of myocardial ischemia caused by hypertension and coronary artery disease (stable and variant angina), reduction of risk of hospitalization and vascular procedures related to angina.
This medication is used for myocardial ischemia, such as hypertension, stable angina, and variant angina due to vascular spasms. It also helps reduce the risk of hospitalization due to angina in patients with coronary artery disease who do not have heart failure or have a cardiac output of more than 40%, as well as reduce risks associated with coronary artery procedures. These effects contribute to improving heart health and enhancing the quality of life for patients.
Administer 5 mg orally once daily as amlodipine and may increase up to a maximum of 10 mg daily according to the patient's response. Dosage should be adjusted appropriately based on age and symptoms.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. Patients who are allergic to this medication or similar types of drugs, nursing women, patients with severe liver dysfunction, patients with heart valve problems, or those in shock should not take this medication. Patients with severe hypotension, patients with severely impaired kidney function requiring dialysis, elderly patients, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication with caution. Taking this medication may cause side effects such as facial flushing, fatigue, body swelling, a sensation of palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea. Rarely, serious side effects such as excessively low blood pressure, vasculitis, neurological disturbances, erectile dysfunction, dry mouth, dyspepsia, liver dysfunction, skin rash, etc., may occur, so if any abnormal symptoms occur, immediate consultation with a doctor is required. Patients with weak heart function or impaired liver function may require dose adjustments, and since this medication's effects appear slowly, it is not suitable for urgent cardiac problems. This medication may interact with other drugs taken concurrently, so it is essential to inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications being taken. In particular, taking it with grapefruit juice may intensify the medication's effects, so it is not recommended. Women who are pregnant or nursing should avoid using this medication unless absolutely necessary, and if nursing, it is recommended to stop breastfeeding. This medication can only be used in children ages 6 and older, as safety and efficacy have not been established in children under 6. In case of overdose, blood pressure may drop too low, and heart rhythms may become irregular, requiring immediate emergency care, and this medication is not removed by blood dialysis, so caution is necessary. It is known not to significantly affect the ability to drive or operate machinery; however, this may vary by individual, so caution is advised.
