Improvement in blood pressure control when monotherapy for hypertension is insufficient
This medication is used additionally in patients with hypertension for whom blood pressure control is insufficient with monotherapy, helping to effectively lower blood pressure.
The usual dose for this medication is 50 mg of Losartan Potassium / 12.5 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide administered once daily in one tablet. Doses exceeding 100 mg of Losartan Potassium / 25 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide per day are not recommended. If blood pressure is not controlled, a starting dose of 50 mg of Losartan Potassium / 12.5 mg of Hydrochlorothiazide in one tablet daily can be prescribed. If blood pressure remains uncontrolled after three weeks, a maximum dose may be administered.
There is no experience regarding use in children and adolescents (under 18 years old), thus the combination of losartan-hydrochlorothiazide is not to be administered.
This medication may cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; therefore, it should be immediately discontinued upon confirmation of pregnancy. This medication should not be administered to patients with certain allergies, severely impaired renal function, severe liver disorder, pregnant women or those who could become pregnant, and patients with certain genetic metabolic disorders. Caution is required when using this medication in patients with low blood pressure, decreased kidney function, liver disease, diabetes, or gout. Particularly in the elderly, adverse reactions may occur more frequently, warranting careful monitoring. This medication lowers blood pressure, which may cause dizziness or drowsiness; caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery. During treatment with this medication, electrolyte status and kidney function should be monitored regularly through blood tests, and care should be taken to prevent potassium levels from becoming too high or too low. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is essential to consult with a physician or pharmacist, especially if potassium supplements, potassium-sparing diuretics, certain diuretics, antihypertensive medications, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are being used. The Hydrochlorothiazide component may increase sensitivity to sunlight, raising the risk of skin cancer; therefore, it is important to avoid sun exposure and take protective measures. If symptoms such as sudden vision changes, eye pain, severe rash, or difficulty breathing occur during treatment with this medication, immediate medical attention should be sought. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should consult with a physician before taking this medication, and breastfeeding women should also be cautious as this medication may pass into breast milk. Safety and effectiveness have not been established for children and adolescents, therefore this medication should not be administered to them. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension and heart rhythm disturbances may occur; if these symptoms appear, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary, and this medication cannot be removed by hemodialysis, requiring specialized treatment. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children, and stored in its original container to prevent misuse or degradation of quality.

This medication is sensitive to light and should be stored in a tightly closed container that blocks light. Additionally, it is important to store it at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius to maintain its efficacy.
