This medication is used to improve symptoms caused by atherosclerosis in adults with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral arterial disease. It also improves atherosclerotic-related symptoms such as mortality from cardiovascular events, myocardial infarction, and stroke in adult patients with acute coronary syndrome, particularly those with unstable angina or non-Q-wave myocardial infarction who have undergone therapy such as medication treatment, coronary intervention, or coronary artery bypass surgery. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of stroke and thromboembolism in adult patients with atrial fibrillation, where vitamin K antagonists are not suitable, and the risk of bleeding is low. Thus, it effectively lowers a variety of cardiovascular diseases and thrombotic-related risks for the improvement of patients' health.

How to take

Adult dose

For patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral arterial disease, Clopidogrel is administered orally at a dosage of 75 mg once daily. For patients with acute coronary syndrome, an initial loading dose of 300 mg is given orally once on the day of initiation, followed by a maintenance dose of 75 mg once daily. Precautions

This drug prevents platelets in the blood from clumping together, thereby preventing blood from clotting. Individuals with genetically reduced function of a specific enzyme (CYP2C19) may experience diminished effectiveness of this drug. In such cases, the physician may consider other treatment options. Taking this drug with certain medications (CYP2C19 inducers) may enhance its effects excessively, increasing the risk of bleeding, so it is advisable not to combine them. Patients who are allergic to this drug, have severe bleeding, severely impaired liver function, are nursing, or have lactose intolerance should not use it. Patients at high risk for bleeding or those scheduled for surgery should stop taking this drug or use it with caution, and any signs of bleeding must be reported immediately to a healthcare professional. Particularly, when used with other medications that affect blood coagulation, the risk of bleeding may increase, so caution is advised. During treatment with this drug, bleeding may take longer to stop, so if there is a bleeding site or if bleeding persists for a long time, consult your doctor immediately. It is important to periodically check platelet levels or whether there is bleeding through blood tests. This medication has not been established for safety and efficacy in children, so it is not to be used in pediatric patients. Women who are pregnant or nursing must consult their physician before taking this medication, and if they are close to their delivery date, they may need to stop taking it to reduce the risk of bleeding. Overdosage may result in increased bleeding, and since there is no specific antidote, immediate hospital treatment is necessary. Store this drug out of reach of children, and it is preferable not to transfer it to another container.
