This medication is used to improve such symptoms in adult patients with vascular atherosclerosis conditions such as ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheral artery disease. Additionally, it reduces the risk of cardiovascular complications, for example, myocardial infarction or stroke, and improves symptoms in patients with acute coronary syndrome who have experienced unstable angina or non-ST elevation myocardial infarction. It also contributes to lowering the risk of stroke and thromboembolism in atrial fibrillation patients who have one or more vascular risk factors but are not suitable for existing vitamin K antagonist therapy. By protecting vascular health in various cardiovascular risk conditions and reducing the risk of complications, it improves patient conditions.

Precautions

This medication helps prevent platelets from clumping together, allowing blood to flow smoothly. Before taking this medication, if you have a genetic condition leading to decreased functionality of a certain enzyme (CYP2C19), the efficacy of the drug may be reduced, so you should consult your doctor. Additionally, taking medications that activate certain enzymes with this drug may increase the risk of bleeding; hence concurrent use is discouraged. You should not take this medication if you have an allergy to it, have bleeding issues, have very poor liver function, are breastfeeding, or have genetic issues such as lactose intolerance. Patients at high risk of bleeding or those scheduled for surgery should exercise caution while taking this medication and should immediately notify healthcare providers if bleeding symptoms arise. Particularly, the risk of bleeding increases when taken with other anticoagulant medications, so caution is warranted. This medication may rarely cause blood-related side effects, such as a decrease in blood cell counts, with prolonged use; thus, if any symptoms of infection or bleeding occur, you should seek medical attention immediately. Gastrointestinal and skin-related side effects such as indigestion, abdominal pain, diarrhea, rash, etc. may occur, and you should inform your healthcare provider if you experience any unusual symptoms. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, you must consult with your doctor regarding the use of this medication, as the risk of bleeding may increase during delivery. For breastfeeding, since this medication may be secreted in breast milk, you should discuss whether to discontinue breastfeeding with your doctor. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not yet been established in children, and its use is generally advised against. In older adults, renal or liver function may decline, increasing bleeding risk, so it should be taken carefully under a doctor's guidance. In case of overdose, the risk of bleeding may increase, and special antidotes are not available; thus, in an emergency, treatments such as platelet transfusion may be required. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and it is safer not to transfer it to another container. While taking this medication, bleeding may take longer to stop, so if the bleeding site or bleeding duration is different than usual, notify healthcare providers immediately. You must inform your doctors or dentists that you are taking this medication before undergoing any surgeries or starting new medications.
