Summary

Main use
Reduction of the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke and improvement of hyperlipidemia
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
The recommended starting dose for the treatment of hyperlipidemia is 10 mg once daily, and for patients requiring greater LDL cholesterol reduction, it may be initiated at 20 mg or 40 mg once daily. Typically, it is administered within a range of 10 to 80 mg once daily. Dosage should be individualized based on treatment goals and patient characteristics, and lipid levels should be analyzed 2-4 weeks later to adjust dosage. Treatment goals should aim to lower LDL cholesterol levels, so it is recommended to use LDL cholesterol levels for evaluating treatment initiation and response. However, if LDL cholesterol levels cannot be obtained, total cholesterol levels should be used to monitor treatment response. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the dosing regimen is 10 to 80 mg once daily, used in conjunction with other lipid-lowering therapies (e.g., LDL apheresis) or when such therapies are not possible. For pediatric patients (10-17 years) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the recommended starting dose is 10 mg once daily, and the recommended maximum dose is 20 mg once daily (there is no clinical data in pediatric populations for doses higher than 20 mg). The dosage should be appropriately adjusted according to the recommended treatment goals for individual patients, with adjustments made at intervals of 4 weeks or longer. ○ For patients with renal impairment: Renal disease does not affect the plasma concentration or LDL cholesterol-lowering effect of atorvastatin, so there is no need to adjust dosing. ○ For elderly patients: Efficacy and safety for patients aged 70 and older are generally similar to those in the adult population.
Child dose
The recommended starting dose for pediatric patients (10-17 years) with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia is 10 mg once daily, and the recommended maximum dose is 20 mg once daily. Dosage adjustments should be made at intervals of 4 weeks or more.

This medicine helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It lowers the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction, stroke, and angina, and also reduces the risk of hospitalization due to vascular surgeries or congestive heart failure. Additionally, it decreases total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo-B protein, and triglyceride levels while increasing HDL cholesterol levels in patients with hyperlipidemia. It is particularly effective for patients with primary and familial hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, and is used as an adjunct to dietary therapy. It is also used to help manage cholesterol levels in pediatric patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. This medication is useful for improving cardiovascular health.
