This medication is used to quickly relieve pain and mobility issues during acute exacerbations of osteoarthritis and effectively treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.
1. Acute exacerbation of osteoarthritis (degenerative arthritis): ○ Adults: Administer 7.5 mg of meloxicam orally once daily. If symptoms do not improve, the dose may be increased to 15 mg daily as needed. 2. Rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis: ○ Adults: Administer 15 mg of this drug orally once daily. The dose may be reduced to 7.5 mg daily according to response to treatment. Do not administer more than 15 mg of this drug daily. Take with water or another beverage during a meal. ○ In older adults or patients at increased risk of adverse reactions, treatment is usually initiated at a dose of 7.5 mg daily. ○ Patients with severe renal failure receiving hemodialysis should not receive more than 7.5 mg daily.
This medication should be used with caution by individuals who regularly consume more than three alcoholic beverages per day, as it increases the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. As a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, it can cause cardiovascular issues, so those with a history of heart disease or stroke should exercise caution. If symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, or speech difficulties occur during use, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional. This medication can cause severe gastrointestinal problems such as bleeding, ulcers, and perforations, especially in the elderly or those with a history of gastrointestinal disease. Immediate evaluation and treatment are necessary if gastrointestinal symptoms or signs of bleeding appear, and discontinuation of the medication may be required in some cases. Severe skin reactions, such as rash, blisters, or mucosal damage, may occur, so if these symptoms arise, stop taking the medication and inform a healthcare professional. It may affect kidney function, so those with kidney disease or those taking diuretics or blood pressure medications should regularly monitor kidney function. Women planning to conceive or who may become pregnant should avoid using this medication, and it should not be used during pregnancy. This medication can also be excreted in breast milk, so breastfeeding women should avoid taking it. The elderly are at increased risk of adverse reactions due to decreased kidney and liver function, so they should use the lowest effective dose with caution. Overdose can lead to nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, and in severe cases, kidney failure or heart problems, so the dosage must be strictly adhered to. There may be interactions with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, anticoagulants, lithium, methotrexate, etc., so it is essential to consult a healthcare professional before using these together. Caution is required when driving or operating machinery since dizziness or drowsiness may occur. This medication should be taken in the minimum effective dose and duration needed for treatment, and regular blood tests and liver/kidney function evaluations are necessary for long-term use. If any unusual symptoms occur during use, consult a healthcare professional for appropriate action.
