Short-term treatment of acute exacerbations of osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, relief of symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis
This medication is used for the treatment of symptoms associated with arthritis diseases such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis, which are characterized by pain and mobility disorders. It is particularly effective in alleviating the symptoms during acute exacerbations of osteoarthritis in the short term and helps relieve pain and inflammation caused by rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. It improves overall joint pain and functional impairment, making daily life more comfortable for patients. It is used effectively for the treatment of arthritis symptoms.
Acute exacerbation of osteoarthritis (degenerative arthritis): Adults: Administer 7.5 mg of meloxicam orally once daily. If symptoms do not improve, the dose may be increased to 15 mg per day as needed. Rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis: Adults: Administer 15 mg of meloxicam orally once daily. The dose may be reduced to 7.5 mg per day depending on the response to treatment. Do not administer more than 15 mg of this medicine per day. Take the daily dose all at once with water or another beverage during a meal. In elderly patients or those at increased risk of adverse reactions (e.g., a history of gastrointestinal disease or cardiovascular risk factors), treatment is usually initiated at a dose of 7.5 mg per day. Patients with severe renal impairment receiving hemodialysis should not receive more than 7.5 mg per day.
This medication may cause gastrointestinal bleeding if taken by individuals who regularly consume more than three drinks per day; therefore, consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is essential. This drug may affect the cardiovascular system and can increase the risk of serious cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction and stroke. Individuals with cardiovascular diseases or risk factors should carefully observe their symptoms, and if symptoms such as chest pain or shortness of breath occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately. This medication can cause severe adverse reactions such as gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcers, and perforations; hence, it should be used with caution, especially in individuals with a history of gastrointestinal diseases or the elderly. Severe allergic reactions like skin rashes or mucosal damage can occur; if such symptoms manifest, the medication should be discontinued and medical personnel should be informed. This medication can affect kidney function, so individuals with kidney diseases, hypertension, or heart failure should periodically check renal function and fluid status while taking it. It may also affect liver function, thus regular liver assessments are necessary in individuals with liver diseases or abnormal liver function test results. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not take this medication, and nursing mothers should also avoid it. Children, adolescents, individuals with specific allergic histories, or patients with severe liver or kidney disorders should not use this drug. While taking this drug, symptoms such as drowsiness, dizziness, and blurred vision may occur; caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. This medication has many drug interactions, particularly with anticoagulants, lithium, methotrexate, diuretics, and antihypertensives, thus consulting with a healthcare professional is necessary for proper monitoring. It should be taken at the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration, and long-term usage requires regular blood tests and liver and kidney function assessments. In case of overdose, serious side effects may occur, and immediate medical attention is required. This medication should be stored in its original container and kept out of reach of children; transferring it to another container is not allowed.
