Improvement of gastric ulcers and gastric mucosal lesions, and relief of excessive gastric acid
This medication is used for various gastrointestinal disorders such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. It also helps prevent Mendelson's syndrome during surgery and anesthesia, and aids in the treatment of gastric ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is effective in improving mucosal damage due to acute and chronic gastritis exacerbations and upper gastrointestinal bleeding. This drug protects the gastric mucosa and is used for improving symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux due to excessive gastric acid.
As ranitidine, the recommended dose is 150 mg taken orally twice daily, in the morning and at bedtime. For gastric and duodenal ulcers: 150 mg taken orally twice daily or 300 mg taken once daily at bedtime. Duodenal ulcer patients may take 300 mg orally twice daily in the morning and at bedtime. Recurrent ulcer patients may take 150 mg once daily at bedtime for maintenance therapy. Reflux
Children aged 8 to 18 can be administered single doses of 150 mg (2 mg per kg of body weight) up to twice a day.
This medication should not be used by patients who have had hypersensitivity reactions to any ingredient in this drug. It should not be given to patients with a history of acute porphyria, as it may exacerbate symptoms. This drug contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders should not take it. Patients with impaired renal function need dose adjustment as it may accumulate in the body, and those with reduced liver function should also use it cautiously. Patients with a history of drug allergies, elderly patients, and those taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should also be administered this medication carefully. Gastric cancer symptoms may be masked; therefore, gastric ulcer patients or individuals over middle age who develop new digestive symptoms should verify malignancy before use. Patients with Helicobacter pylori infection and gastric/duodenal ulcers need to undergo bacterial eradication treatment. Rarely, while taking this medication, symptoms such as anaphylactic shock, skin rash, blood abnormalities, liver dysfunction, heart rhythm abnormalities, gastrointestinal symptoms, and neurological symptoms may occur, so if any abnormal symptoms appear, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. During treatment, closely observe the condition of the disease, and switch to other treatment methods if there is no effect. Elderly patients or those with chronic diseases may have an increased risk of pneumonia, and caution should be taken to avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery if dizziness or drowsiness occurs. This medication may affect the absorption or excretion of other drugs, so dose adjustments of concurrent medications may be necessary. Especially for patients taking anticoagulants, such as warfarin, frequent blood tests should be performed to reduce the risk of bleeding. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before taking this medication, as its safety has not been established, and it should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks. Safety in children has not been fully confirmed, so caution is required for use. Elderly patients may have reduced kidney function, so they should take this medication cautiously, either by reducing the dose or increasing the dosing interval. False-positive results may occur in some tests while taking this medication, so be mindful of the testing methods. In case of overdose, appropriate treatment such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, and in severe cases, blood dialysis may be required. Store out of reach of children and do not transfer to other containers for safety. Long-term use may increase bacterial growth in the stomach due to reduced gastric acid secretion, so caution is required, and an ophthalmological examination may be necessary due to its affinity with ocular melanin.
