Treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, symptom relief in gastroesophageal reflux disease, and maintenance therapy effects
This medication is used to treat gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It is also effective for alleviating symptoms of erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease and for long-term maintenance therapy. Additionally, it is used in combination with antibiotics to treat gastrointestinal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori and is indicated for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. This medication helps in the treatment and relief of symptoms related to various gastrointestinal disorders.
For gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers: Take 10 mg orally once daily, with a maximum of 20 mg once daily depending on symptoms. Usually administered for up to 8 weeks for gastric ulcers and up to 6 weeks for duodenal ulcers. For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: Take 10 mg or 20 mg orally once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If symptoms do not improve after 8 weeks of treatment, an additional 8 weeks of 10 mg or 20 mg may be required.
This medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to certain drugs or ingredients. Care should be taken, especially for those who have a hypersensitivity to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication. Patients with impaired liver function or elderly individuals should use this drug cautiously, and if any abnormal symptoms occur, they should consult their doctor immediately. If any allergic symptoms such as skin rash or itching appear during the course of treatment, the medication should be discontinued. It is advisable to have regular blood tests and liver function tests, and if any abnormal findings are detected, treatment should be stopped immediately. Caution is necessary as side effects may occur in the heart or blood vessels, and in various systems including the digestive, nervous, respiratory, musculoskeletal, and skin. Long-term use may increase the risk of fractures; therefore, this medication should be used for the appropriate duration and dosage as directed by a physician. Since this drug suppresses gastric acid secretion, the risk of gastrointestinal infections may slightly increase. If diarrhea symptoms persist, this should be reported to the healthcare provider. Caution is also needed as drowsiness may occur when driving or operating machinery. There may be interactions with other medications; therefore, any concurrent medications should be disclosed. Particular caution is needed when used in combination with antiviral drugs, antibiotics, anticoagulants, etc. This medication should not be chewed or crushed; it should be swallowed whole in tablet form. It should be kept out of reach of children and not transferred to another container. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not safe, and consultation with a healthcare provider should be pursued before administration.
