Treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, relief of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and maintenance therapy, combination therapy with antibiotics for Helicobacter pylori infection-related gastrointestinal ulcers, treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
This medication is effective in treating gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, and is used to relieve symptoms of erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease and for long-term maintenance therapy. Additionally, it enhances therapeutic effects when combined with antibiotics in patients with gastrointestinal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori. It also aids in the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. This drug suppresses gastric acid secretion, improving symptoms of ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease.
For gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers: Administer 10 mg orally once daily, with a possibility to increase to 20 mg once daily depending on symptoms. For erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 10 mg or 20 mg orally once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If no effect after 8 weeks of treatment, 10 mg or 20 mg may be administered twice daily for an additional 8 weeks (for severe patients). For symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease
This medication should not be used in individuals with a known allergy to this medication or its components or who have had hypersensitivity reactions to benzimidazoles. Caution is also needed for those with hypersensitivity reactions to penicillin antibiotics or macrolide antibiotics. Patients taking specific medications such as terfenadine, cisapride, pimodizole, astemizole or atazanavir, rilpivirine should not use this medication concurrently. It is safer not to use this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Patients with impaired liver function, elderly individuals, and those with a history of drug allergies should use this medication cautiously. If allergic symptoms such as rash, hives, or itching occur while taking this medication, it should be discontinued immediately. Regular blood tests and liver function tests are recommended, and if abnormal signs are observed, medication use should be halted and a doctor consulted. Various side effects may occur in different body parts including the heart, gastrointestinal tract, nervous system, respiratory system, muscles, skin, eyes, and urinary system, so care should be taken if abnormal symptoms appear. Long-term use may increase the risk of osteoporosis and fractures, so appropriate measures should be discussed with a doctor as needed. This medication inhibits gastric acid secretion, which may slightly increase the risk of gastrointestinal bacterial infections; if diarrhea persists, medical personnel should be informed. Caution is needed when driving or operating machinery as drowsiness may occur. There may be interactions with other medications, so particularly when taking warfarin, methotrexate, antibiotics, antiviral agents, etc., it is essential to inform a doctor or pharmacist. This medication should be swallowed whole and not chewed or crushed, and it should be kept out of the reach of children. It is advisable not to use this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and elderly individuals should use it cautiously due to potential liver function decline. Safety in pediatrics has not been established, so it is preferable not to use it. In case of overdose, as there is no specific antidote, appropriate treatment based on symptoms should be administered, and regular check-ups are necessary.
