This medication is used to treat essential hypertension, controlling blood pressure, and is utilized in patients with heart failure (NYHA class II~IV) who have intolerance to ACE inhibitors. Additionally, it is effective in reducing the mortality risk in stabilized patients with left ventricular dysfunction or left ventricular systolic dysfunction following myocardial infarction. Therefore, this medication is used to improve symptoms of hypertension and certain heart failure, and to reduce the risk of death after myocardial infarction.

How to take

Adult dose

Essential hypertension: Take with water during meals or between meals. It is recommended to take it at the same time every day (e.g., in the morning). Adults: Oral administration of 80 mg once daily as Valsartan is recommended. If blood pressure control is inadequate, it may be increased up to 160 mg daily, or diuretics may be combined, with a maximum increase up to 320 mg daily. Elderly patients (over 75 years): Start at 40 mg once daily.

Child dose

Safety and efficacy have not been established in children and adolescents under 18 years of age, so it is not administered.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it must be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and patients with allergies to this medication or its ingredients should not take it. Patients with severe impairment of liver or kidney function, and those with certain genetic diseases should not use this medication. Elderly patients or those with elevated potassium levels in the blood, as well as those with diminished liver function, must use this medication cautiously and adjust the dosage if necessary. Patients with heart or kidney diseases should carefully monitor their condition while taking this medication. Dizziness or sudden drops in blood pressure may occur while taking this medication, so caution is especially necessary during the initial dose, and attention is needed when driving or operating machinery. Taking potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements together may dangerously elevate potassium levels in the blood, so consultation with a doctor is essential. When combined with other antihypertensives, diuretics, or anti-inflammatory analgesics, the effects or side effects may change, so follow medical guidance. This medication has not been established to be safe or effective in children and adolescents, so it is not used in these populations. If the dosage is exceeded, severe hypotension or reduced consciousness may occur, requiring immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
