Improvement of acute diarrhea due to zinc deficiency
This medication helps improve diarrhea symptoms in patients with acute diarrhea due to zinc deficiency when used with oral rehydration solutions.
Infants from 6 months to 5 years should take 20 mg of zinc divided into three doses per day for 10 to 14 days.
This medicine should not be used by individuals who are allergic to this medicine or its components. Caution should be exercised when using this medication in individuals receiving treatment from a physician, those with heart or circulatory problems, those with decreased kidney function, and those with low protein levels in the blood. If gastrointestinal disturbances, indigestion, upper abdominal pain, nausea, low blood pressure, symptoms of pulmonary congestion, or vomiting occur while taking this medication, use should be discontinued immediately. Additionally, excessive use of this medication may lead to gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, as well as increased sodium levels in the blood, heart failure, and swelling. Symptoms such as abdominal pain, indigestion, diarrhea, gastric irritation, gastritis, allergic reactions, headache, and drowsiness may also occur, so caution is advised. This medication should be taken according to prescribed methods and dosages, and should be administered under the supervision of an adult when given to children. Caution should be exercised when this medication is taken with certain diuretics as it may increase potassium levels in the blood. It is also advisable not to take this medication with phosphates, calcium salts, oral tetracycline medications, or antacids. Teas containing tannins, such as green tea or black tea, should be avoided during or just before and after taking this medication. Overdosage of this medication may lead to severe symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, dizziness, abdominal pain, drowsiness, and motor control disorders, and in severe cases, may pose a threat to life. In cases of overdose, damage to the oral and stomach mucosa may occur, and inflammation may arise, so gastric lavage or induced vomiting should be avoided, and a laxative such as milk or an antidote like calcium disodium edetate may be used. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children, kept tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent abuse and maintain the quality of the drug.
