This medication is used to treat osteoporosis experienced by postmenopausal women. Osteoporosis is a condition in which bones become weak, increasing the risk of fractures. This medication helps strengthen the bones and increase bone density to prevent fractures. With consistent treatment and management, it can help maintain healthy bones.

How to take

Adult dose

Take one tablet regularly once a month at the same time in the morning, at least one hour before consuming food, beverages (except water), or other oral medicines or dietary supplements (including calcium). This medicine should be swallowed with a sufficient amount (180-240 mL) of water while standing or sitting upright, and you must not lie down for 60 minutes after taking it. Mineral water may reduce the absorption of this medication.

Child dose

Efficacy and safety in pediatric patients under 18 years of age have not been studied.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients who are allergic to this medication or its ingredients, untreated hypocalcemia patients, patients who cannot sit or stand upright for more than 60 minutes, patients with esophageal function issues causing difficulty in swallowing food, and genetically lactose-intolerant patients should not take this medication. Patients with severe renal impairment should be especially cautious when using this medication. When taking this medication, side effects such as dyspepsia, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, muscle pain, joint pain, and rash may occur. Some patients may rarely experience flu-like symptoms, eye inflammation, or severe allergic reactions, so caution is warranted. Before taking this medication, hypocalcemia or bone and mineral metabolism disorders should be treated, and it is important to ensure adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D. This medication can irritate the gastric mucosa, so patients with gastrointestinal disorders should be especially careful. If symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, chest pain, or heartburn occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. Bisphosphonate medications carry a risk of osteonecrosis of the jaw, so prior to dental treatment, it's advisable to thoroughly check the oral condition and avoid excessive dental work during treatment. Additionally, if pain occurs in the thigh or groin while taking this medication, consider the possibility of atypical fractures and further examination may be necessary. This medication may have reduced absorption when taken with food, milk, calcium supplements, antacids, etc., so do not consume other food or medications for at least 1 hour after taking it. It is safest for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to use this medication. In case of overdose, gastrointestinal discomfort or hypocalcemia may occur, and medical personnel should be consulted immediately. Do not induce vomiting, and ensure the patient remains upright. Keep out of reach of children, and properly dispose of any unused medications to prevent environmental contamination.
