How to take

Adult dose

For sildenafil, the recommended dosage from 25 to 50 mg should be taken orally approximately 1 hour before sexual activity. Depending on the situation, it may also be taken 4 hours to 30 minutes before sexual activity. The dosage may be adjusted based on efficacy and tolerance.

Precautions

This medication may cause extremely low blood pressure when taken with nitrate medications or nitric oxide (NO) donors, so it is essential to check if such medications are being used. Patients with heart or vascular issues should undergo thorough cardiovascular evaluation before taking this medication, and sexual activities that may strain the heart are not recommended. This drug can dilate blood vessels and temporarily lower blood pressure; therefore, caution is necessary, especially for patients with cardiovascular disease. Patients with a history of heart rhythm disorders, heart failure, unstable angina, severe blood pressure abnormalities, or pigmentary retinal inflammation within the last six months should not use this medication. If an erection lasts more than 4 hours, immediate medical attention should be sought, as untreated prolonged erection can lead to penile tissue damage and loss of erectile function. Patients with reduced blood pressure control or left ventricular outflow obstruction may be sensitive to the vasodilating effects of this medication. When taken with certain antiviral drugs, the plasma concentration of this drug can significantly increase, so dose adjustments may be necessary. The artificial sweetener aspartame in this medication should not be given to patients with phenylketonuria; daily intake limits must be adhered to. Patients who are hypersensitive to this medication or regularly use nitrate medications should not use it. Patients with severe liver disease, severe cardiovascular diseases, recent history of myocardial infarction or stroke, children under 18, and women should not take this medication. The concurrent use of other erectile dysfunction treatments is also not recommended. Caution is advised for patients with anatomical penile deformities, bleeding disorders, or certain blood disorders, and older patients or those with renal or hepatic impairment should start with a lower dose. While taking this medication, symptoms such as visual disturbances, headache, dizziness, dyspepsia, nasal congestion, flushing may occur, and if symptoms are severe, consultation with a doctor is advised. Serious adverse reactions such as cardiovascular events, rare hearing loss, and prolonged erection have been reported, so any unusual symptoms should be reported to medical personnel immediately. There are many drug interactions, so caution is needed when combined with certain antibiotics, antivirals, and antihypertensive medications, and patients should inform their doctor or pharmacist about any medications they are currently taking. Taking this medication with food may delay its effect, so follow your doctor's instructions regarding administration. This medication should not be used for purposes other than erectile dysfunction treatment, and it does not prevent sexually transmitted infections. Caution is required while driving or operating machinery as it may cause visual disturbances or dizziness. Overdose may exacerbate symptoms, so it is essential to adhere to the prescribed dosage; in case of overdose, immediate medical treatment is required. Keep out of reach of children and avoid transferring to other containers.
