Summary

Main use
Improvement of pancreatic exocrine dysfunction
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
The dose always depends on the severity of pancreatic impairment and the composition of the meal. Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older The recommended dose is 20,000 ∼ 40,000 EP units of lipase activity from pancreatin powder per meal. Depending on the degree of indigestion, the required amount may be considerably higher. In particular, in patients with cystic fibrosis, the dose of enzymes required for adequate fat absorption should not be exceeded, and the amount and composition of meals should be taken into account. The dose should be increased cautiously and in association with improvement in symptoms (e.g., steatorrhea, abdominal pain). Do not exceed 15,000 ∼ 20,000 EP units of lipase activity per kg of body weight per day or 4,000 EP units per g of fat intake. Take this drug with plenty of water during or immediately after a meal. Chewing this drug or opening the capsule may reduce its efficacy, and the release of enzymes in the mouth may damage the oral mucosa. Therefore, swallow this drug whole. If swallowing the capsule intact is difficult (e.g., for children or older adults), open the capsule, mix its contents with a liquid or soft food (pH < 5.5), and take immediately. The contents must be swallowed immediately without chewing. The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the disease.
Child dose
Children aged 4 years and under 12 years: Start with a weight-based dose of 500 EP units of lipase activity from pancreatin powder per kg of body weight per meal.

View approved original text

This medicine is used for pancreatic exocrine dysfunction. Pancreatic exocrine dysfunction refers to a condition where digestive enzymes are not sufficiently secreted from the pancreas, leading to difficulty in digestion. This medication helps with digestion by supplementing insufficient digestive enzymes and improves the absorption of nutrients. Therefore, it is effective in alleviating symptoms of indigestion and nutritional deficiencies.
