Treatment of erectile dysfunction
Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
For sildenafil, chew the recommended dose of 25 ∼ 50 mg once daily approximately 1 hour before sexual activity. In some cases, it may be chewed 4 hours to 30 minutes before sexual activity. The dose may be increased or decreased according to efficacy and tolerability. In the following patients, the initial dose should be adjusted to 25 mg because sildenafil plasma concentrations may increase: - Age 65 years or older (AUC increase of 40 %) - Hepatic impairment (cirrhosis: 80 %) - Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance 30 mL/min or less: 100 %) - Concomitant use of CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, erythromycin (182 %), and saquinavir (210 %)); increased blood concentrations may increase efficacy and the incidence of adverse reactions. - In patients receiving concomitant ritonavir, do not exceed 25 mg as a maximum single dose in a 48-hour period.

Precautions

This medication must be discussed with a doctor before taking, during use, and after use, especially if taken with nitrates or NO donors, as blood pressure may drop too low. Patients with heart diseases should thoroughly check their cardiovascular status before using this medication, and sexual activity that may stress the heart is not recommended. This medication can temporarily lower blood pressure due to its vasodilating effects, so caution is necessary for patients with cardiovascular diseases. Patients with recent histories of heart disease or cerebrovascular disease should not use this medication, and those with cardiovascular risk factors should consult a physician before use. This medication may cause prolonged erections lasting more than 4 hours or painful erections, which should be treated immediately by a physician. Patients with certain conditions or diseases, such as heart failure, hypotension, or pigmentary retinopathy, should use this medication with particular caution. Co-administration with specific medications such as ritonavir may significantly increase the blood concentration of this medication, so strict adherence to a doctor's instructions is required when taking it together. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, and patients with phenylketonuria should not take it. This medication is not used for women and children under 18 years of age, and elderly patients should start with a lower dose for safety. While taking, side effects such as visual disturbances, dizziness, headaches, flushing, dyspepsia, and others may occur; if symptoms are severe or persistent, consult a physician. Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery after taking this medication, and personal reactions should be assessed first. It is not recommended to take with other erectile dysfunction treatments due to potential drug interactions, and patients must inform healthcare providers of all medications being taken. A higher dosage may lead to worsening side effects, so it is essential to adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, and in case of overdose, visit a medical institution immediately. Store this medication out of reach of children and ensure it is not transferred to other containers.
