Treatment of erectile dysfunction
This medication is used to treat erectile dysfunction. Patients can expect to improve erectile capacity and assist sexual function by taking this medication.
For sildenafil, chew the recommended dose of 25 ∼ 50 mg once daily approximately 1 hour before sexual activity. In some cases, it may be chewed 4 hours to 30 minutes before sexual activity. The dose may be increased or decreased according to efficacy and tolerability. In the following patients, the initial dose should be adjusted to 25 mg because sildenafil plasma concentrations may increase: - Age 65 years or older (AUC increase of 40 %) - Hepatic impairment (cirrhosis: 80 %) - Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance 30 mL/min or less: 100 %) - Concomitant use of CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, erythromycin (182 %), and saquinavir (210 %)); increased blood concentrations may increase efficacy and the incidence of adverse reactions. - In patients receiving concomitant ritonavir, do not exceed 25 mg as a maximum single dose in a 48-hour period.
This medication may cause a significant drop in blood pressure in patients taking nitrate compounds or NO donors, so it is essential to consult a doctor before use. Patients with cardiovascular diseases should evaluate their heart condition thoroughly before using this medication, as sexual activity itself may pose risks. This medication can dilate blood vessels and temporarily lower blood pressure, hence patients with cardiovascular diseases should take extra caution. Patients who have recently suffered from heart attacks, strokes, or those with hypotension or hypertension should not use this medication. If an erection lasts more than 4 hours or if pain occurs, seek medical attention immediately, as untreated conditions may cause damage to the penile tissue. Patients with specific heart conditions or impaired blood pressure control may be sensitive to this medication and should exercise caution. Patients taking certain medications like Ritonavir may experience a significant increase in blood concentration of this medication, requiring dose adjustments. Patients with phenylketonuria should not take this medication due to the artificial sweetener aspartame it contains. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication, those taking nitrate compounds, those with severe heart conditions, severe liver failure, hypotension, or uncontrolled hypertension should not use this medication. This medication is not for use by children under 18 years or women. Common side effects of this medication include headache, flushing, dyspepsia, dizziness, visual disturbances, and care should be taken when using it. Serious side effects such as heart attack or sudden cardiac death have been reported infrequently, so patients with cardiovascular conditions should use it with extra caution. Visual disturbances or dizziness may occur when driving or operating machinery, so caution is necessary. This medication should not be used with other erectile dysfunction treatments, and caution should be taken regarding dosing intervals when used with alpha-blockers due to hypotension risks. Using this medication in combination with certain antibiotics, antifungals, HIV treatments, etc., may affect its blood concentration, so you should consult a doctor for dose adjustments. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication, and dose adjustments may be needed for children or older adults. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as intensified headache, flushing, dizziness, and dyspepsia can occur, so the prescribed dose should be adhered to. Keep this medication out of children's reach and ensure it is not transferred to another container.
