Summary

Main use
Treatment of erectile dysfunction
Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
Administer sildenafil orally at the recommended dose of 25 ∼ 50 mg once daily, approximately 1 hour before sexual activity. In some cases, it may be administered 4 hours to 30 minutes before sexual activity. The dose may be increased or decreased according to efficacy and tolerability. In the following patients, adjust the initial dose to 25 mg because sildenafil plasma concentrations may be increased: - Age 65 years or older (AUC increased by 40 %) - Hepatic impairment (cirrhosis: 80 %) - Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance of 30 mL/min or less: 100 %) - Concomitant use with CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole, erythromycin (182 %), saquinavir (210 %)); increased blood concentrations may increase efficacy and the incidence of adverse reactions. - In patients receiving concomitant ritonavir, do not exceed 25 mg as a maximum single dose in any 48-hour period.

Precautions

This medicine may lower blood pressure by dilating blood vessels, so taking it with nitrate compounds or nitric oxide donors can risk dangerously low blood pressure. Therefore, before administering this medicine, doctors must confirm whether the patient is taking these medications and caution against using them together during or after treatment. Patients with heart or vascular issues should be thoroughly examined before taking this medicine, and it is safest for patients with severe cardiovascular diseases or those who have recently experienced a heart attack or stroke not to use this medicine. Sexual activity itself can put a strain on the heart, so patients with poor cardiovascular conditions should avoid using this medicine or any erectile dysfunction treatments. This medicine may temporarily lower blood pressure when lying down due to its vasodilatory effects, so patients with underlying cardiovascular diseases should take extra caution. If an erection lasts longer than 4 hours or is accompanied by pain, immediate medical attention should be sought, as untreated priapism may cause damage to penile tissue. The blood concentration of this medicine may significantly increase when taken with certain drugs, especially specific antiviral agents or CYP3A4 inhibitors, thus necessitating dosage adjustments. This medicine contains an artificial sweetener called aspartame, which should not be taken by patients with phenylketonuria. Patients allergic to this medication, or those with serious cardiovascular diseases, severe liver or kidney failure, low blood pressure or uncontrolled hypertension should not take this medicine. Elderly patients or those with declining liver or kidney functions should start at a low dose and take it with caution, and should exercise caution when driving or operating machinery while taking this medicine. This medicine should not be used for purposes other than the treatment of erectile dysfunction, and it is not recommended to take it with other erectile dysfunction treatments. If sudden vision loss or hearing loss occurs during use, discontinue taking it immediately and consult a doctor. This medicine does not have a protective effect against sexually transmitted diseases, so appropriate protective measures should be taken during sexual intercourse. In the case of overdose, appropriate treatment is necessary according to symptoms, and caution is required as it is not removed by kidney dialysis. This medicine should not be taken by children or women, and should be kept out of reach of children.
