This medication is primarily used to control symptoms of essential hypertension, that is, high blood pressure.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

The recommended dosage of Valsartan is 80 mg orally once daily regardless of gender or race. The blood pressure-lowering effect gradually appears within 2 weeks and reaches its maximum effect after 4 weeks. For patients who do not achieve adequate blood pressure control, the dose may be increased to 160 mg once daily or combined with a diuretic. If further blood pressure reduction is needed, the dose can be increased to a maximum of 320 mg once daily.

Children's dosage

The safety and efficacy for children and adolescents under 18 years have not been established.

Precautions

This drug can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn, particularly during pregnancy, and should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. This medication should not be used by individuals with allergic reactions to it, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients with severe liver or kidney disorders, or those with a history of specific angioedema.
