View approved original text

This medication is prescribed to assist patients with type 2 diabetes in controlling their blood sugar levels, using Glimepiride and Metformin together. How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered 1 to 2 times daily before meals or with meals. Dosage adjustments may be made based on each patient's current therapy, efficacy, and tolerance, with appropriate blood sugar monitoring being required. Generally, treatment starts with a low dose, and dosage adjustments may be made considering the patient's current medication and blood sugar levels. In clinical trials, the initial daily dosage was Glimepiride/Metformin Hydrochloride 2 mg/500 mg.

Precautions

This medication is used to lower blood sugar. It is essential to conduct kidney function tests before use, as this medication can accumulate in patients with impaired kidney function, potentially causing serious metabolic abnormalities such as lactic acidosis. If there are symptoms of dehydration, severe vomiting, diarrhea, or fever, the medication should be temporarily stopped, and a doctor should be consulted. Caution is also required when taking other medications that may affect kidney function. This medication is not to be administered to patients with insulin-dependent diabetes, acute metabolic acidosis, severe liver or kidney dysfunction, or to pregnant or breastfeeding women. Particular attention is required for elderly patients or those with poor nutritional status, or for those with irregular eating patterns or excessive alcohol consumption, as there is an increased risk of hypoglycemia. During treatment, patients should be well-informed about symptoms of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis, and should notify their doctor immediately if these symptoms occur. Symptoms of hypoglycemia include headaches, severe hunger, dizziness, and drowsiness, while symptoms of lactic acidosis include muscle pain, weakness, and difficulty breathing. This medication may cause gastrointestinal disturbance symptoms (such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, etc.), most of which occur early in treatment and improve naturally over time. If symptoms are severe, dose adjustment may be necessary after consulting a physician. Regular monitoring of blood sugar, kidney function, and Vitamin B12 levels during treatment is required to check for any abnormalities, particularly as Vitamin B12 deficiency can occur and necessitates periodic monitoring. In cases of overdose, hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis may occur, requiring immediate medical intervention, and it is crucial to immediately consume sugar if hypoglycemia is experienced. Caution should be exercised against excessive alcohol consumption, as this medication may increase the risk of side effects when taken with alcohol. Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should not take this medication and should be switched to insulin therapy as needed. To ensure children's safety, this medication should be stored out of reach of children, and caution is required when driving or operating machinery due to the risk of hypoglycemia or other side effects.
