This medication is used in patients with acute coronary syndrome, including those with unstable angina or non-ST elevation myocardial infarction, and is applicable to patients undergoing medical treatment, coronary intervention, or coronary artery bypass grafting. Additionally, this drug helps reduce the risk of atherosclerotic complications such as cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, and stroke. Furthermore, it is used to decrease the risk of stroke and thromboembolism in atrial fibrillation patients with one or more vascular risk factors who have difficulty receiving vitamin K antagonist therapy and a low risk of bleeding. This drug effectively prevents and improves complications of cardiovascular diseases.

Precautions

This medicine prolongs the time it takes for blood to clot and may cause bleeding to last longer than usual; thus, if bleeding is severe or does not stop, you should contact a doctor immediately. Especially before surgery or when starting new medications, it is crucial to inform healthcare professionals that you are taking this drug. Individuals genetically predisposed to decreased function of a specific enzyme (CYP2C19) may experience reduced effectiveness of this medication, and in such cases, should consult with healthcare professionals to determine appropriate treatment. Taking this drug along with certain medications may increase its effectiveness or risk of bleeding, so it is essential to inform healthcare professionals if you are taking other medications. Individuals who consume more than three alcoholic beverages daily should consult a doctor or pharmacist before taking this medication, as there is a risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. Those allergic to this drug or with specific medical conditions (e.g., bleeding disorders, severe liver or kidney dysfunction, late-stage pregnancy, etc.) should not take it. Individuals with a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or with a tendency to bleed should use this drug cautiously, and if bleeding symptoms are suspected during treatment, they should consult healthcare professionals immediately. Patients scheduled for surgery should discontinue this medication 5 to 7 days prior to the surgery and restart it only after hemostasis is achieved. This drug is not recommended for children or adolescents under 18 years of age, and the elderly may be more susceptible to adverse effects, so their condition should be closely monitored. An overdose may increase the risk of bleeding, so adherence to the prescribed dose and administration is essential; any unusual symptoms should be reported to healthcare professionals immediately. Store this medication out of reach of children, in a cool place, and avoid transferring it to other containers.
