Bowel Preparation Solution for Colon Exam
This medication is used to clean the bowel before colon X-ray or colonoscopy. It is also effective as a bowel preparation solution before surgery. Thus, this drug is used for preparation for precision examinations or surgery related to the colon.
Take 1 packet of the prepared solution before 8 AM on the day before the exam. Take an additional 1 packet of the prepared solution 6-8 hours later.
Ages 1-2 years: take 1/4 packet in the morning and 1/4 packet in the afternoon on the day before the exam. Ages 2-4 years: take 1/2 packet in the morning and 1/2 packet in the afternoon on the day before the exam. Ages 4-9 years: take 1 packet in the morning before the exam.
This medicine contains aspartame, an artificial sweetener that is metabolized into phenylalanine in the body, and should not be used by patients who have phenylketonuria, a hereditary condition that requires restriction of phenylalanine intake. Additionally, this drug should not be used in patients with allergies to this drug or its components, patients with congestive heart failure with impaired cardiac function, patients with atrophic conditions with weak stomachs, patients with ulcers in the stomach, patients with toxic colitis or toxic megacolon, patients with intestinal obstruction, patients with severe nausea or vomiting, patients with acute abdomen requiring surgical intervention such as acute appendicitis, patients suspected of gastrointestinal obstruction or perforation, patients in severe dehydration, patients with severe muscle damage such as rhabdomyolysis, patients with high serum magnesium levels (hypermagnesemia), patients with active inflammatory bowel disease, patients with severely impaired renal function, or patients with ascites. Caution is particularly necessary for patients who have recently undergone gastrointestinal surgery, have kidney or heart disease or inflammatory bowel disease, are taking medications that may influence fluid or electrolyte balance, children, the elderly, frail individuals, or patients at risk for hypokalemia. If hyponatremia occurs, immediate hydration and electrolyte replenishment is necessary. Possible side effects including headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and rash may occur, so any abnormal symptoms should be reported to healthcare personnel immediately. When using this drug for bowel cleansing before colon surgery, it should only be administered when necessary as the clinical benefits are not definitively established, and prolonged use should be avoided due to the risk of fluid and electrolyte imbalance, not exceeding 24 hours. This medication may affect the absorption of other oral medications, so caution should be exercised especially for patients taking antiepileptics, contraceptives, diabetes medications, and antibiotics, and specific antibiotics, iron supplements, digoxin, etc. should be taken at intervals. Use of this drug is not recommended during pregnancy, and while it is not absorbed significantly during breastfeeding, caution is advised. In the case of overdose, severe diarrhea may occur, and adequate hydration and symptomatic treatment are necessary. When using this drug, ensure that the solution is not too hot, and use it immediately after opening, discarding any remaining medication. Lastly, this medication should be kept out of reach of children and not transferred to another container. Store it in the original container, protected from moisture and humidity.
