This medication is used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and to treat hyperlipidemia. It is particularly helpful in reducing the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adult patients with multiple risk factors for coronary heart disease and in patients with type 2 diabetes. Additionally, for patients with established coronary heart disease, it reduces the risks of non-fatal myocardial infarction, stroke, the need for vascular interventions, congestive heart failure hospitalization, and angina. For hyperlipidemia treatment, it primarily reduces total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo-B protein, and triglycerides while increasing HDL cholesterol, thereby improving blood lipid levels when used in conjunction with dietary therapy. It is especially useful as an adjunct to diet in patients with various types of dyslipidemia, and can be used when other treatments are not feasible. Therefore, this medication is effectively used for cardiovascular risk reduction and dyslipidemia improvement.
