This medication helps to increase tear production in patients with ocular inflammation related to dry keratoconjunctivitis due to decreased tear production, alleviating symptoms.

How to apply drops

Adult eye dose

Instill 1 drop in each eye twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart. Before use, invert the container several times to mix until a uniform, white, opaque suspension is obtained. If this medicine is used at the same time as artificial tears, administer them 15 minutes apart. Discard any remaining solution and the container after instillation.

Precautions

This medication should be used with caution in patients with a history of herpetic keratitis as sufficient studies have not been conducted. The effect of increased tear production was not observed in patients using topical anti-inflammatory drugs or tear plugs. It should not be used in patients with active ocular infections or hypersensitivity to any component of this medication. The most common side effect is burning sensation in the eyes; other side effects may include conjunctival hyperemia, ocular discharge, eye pain, foreign body sensation, itching, visual disturbances, etc. Rarely, severe allergic reactions such as ocular swelling, angioedema, and urticaria may occur, so immediate consultation with a physician is required if symptoms are severe. This medication is for ophthalmic use only, and care must be taken to avoid direct contact of the container with the eye during administration. Temporary blurriness may occur after instillation, so driving or operating machinery should be avoided until vision returns to normal. Safety during pregnancy has not been established, so it should be administered cautiously only when absolutely necessary. There is also uncertainty about whether this medication is secreted in breast milk, so caution is warranted during breastfeeding. The safety and efficacy in children under the age of 16 have not been established, and its use is not recommended in this age group. The opened solution should be used only once, and any remaining liquid must be discarded, ensuring the tip of the container does not come into contact with the eye or other surfaces to prevent contamination. This product should not be used while wearing contact lenses; lenses should be removed before administration and can be reinserted after 15 minutes. Keep this product out of reach of children and discard any expired medication. There are studies related to the occurrence of cancer with long-term oral administration of this medication, but the risk is low with topical administration due to the very small dosage. Although the potential for mutagenicity is low, some studies have shown that it may induce genetic changes, necessitating caution. No effects on fertility have been reported.
