Treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis and prevention of spinal fractures
This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It is particularly effective in reducing the occurrence of spinal fractures, while its effect on non-vertebral fractures is not yet certain. Thus, it helps reduce the risk of spinal fractures due to osteoporosis.
Take 1 tablet (20 mg as Bazedoxifene) once daily, regardless of meals.
This medication can increase the risk of blood clots in the bloodstream. The risk of venous thromboembolism is highest during the first year of treatment, so caution is necessary. This medication is intended for use only in postmenopausal women and is not recommended for premenopausal women. If uterine bleeding occurs while taking this medication, a healthcare professional must be consulted for diagnosis. Its safety has not been established in patients with breast cancer, and it should not be used for prevention or treatment purposes. Individuals with allergies to this medication or its ingredients should avoid taking it, and those with a history of thrombosis should not use it. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant and nursing mothers should not take this medication. Individuals with unexplained uterine bleeding or symptoms of endometrial cancer should also not use this medication. This medication contains lactose, so individuals with lactose intolerance should exercise caution. Patients with severe hypertriglyceridemia or severe renal or hepatic impairment should use this medication with caution. While taking this medication, side effects such as facial flushing, leg cramps, dry mouth, skin rash, drowsiness, etc. may occur, requiring attention. If symptoms affecting vision arise, it is advisable to consult a doctor immediately, and it is recommended to avoid driving or operating machinery until the symptoms resolve. This medication has a low potential for drug interactions, but if used in combination with certain drugs, the effect may change, so it is essential to consult a doctor or pharmacist. In case of overdose, there are no specific antidotes, so appropriate treatment should be provided according to the symptoms.
