Improvement of reduced tear production due to ocular inflammation associated with keratoconjunctivitis sicca
This medication is used to treat ocular inflammation, including dry keratoconjunctivitis, resulting from decreased tear production. When patients produce insufficient tears, this drug promotes tear production, helping to alleviate symptoms and improve eye health.
Instill 1 drop of this medicine into each eye twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart. Before use, invert the container up and down to mix until the suspension is uniformly white and opaque. If this medicine is used concomitantly with artificial tears, administer them 15 minutes apart. Discard any remaining solution and the container after use.
This medication should be used with caution in patients with a history of herpetic keratitis due to insufficient studies. The effect of increased tear production has not been observed in patients using topical anti-inflammatory drugs or tear plugs. Patients with active ocular infections or known hypersensitivity to any component of this medication should not use it. Burning sensation in the eyes is the most commonly reported side effect, along with conjunctival hyperemia, discharge, eye pain, foreign body sensation, itching, and vision disturbances. Severe side effects may occur rarely, including ocular swelling, angioedema, and respiratory distress; therefore, if any unusual symptoms arise, consult a doctor immediately. This medication is for ophthalmic use only, and care should be taken to avoid direct contact of the container tip with the eye during instillation. Temporary blurred vision may occur after instillation, so driving or operating hazardous machinery should be avoided until vision is clear. The safety of this medication has not been established for use in pregnant or nursing women, so it should be used cautiously only when necessary, and care is needed during use while breastfeeding. Its safety and efficacy have not been confirmed in children under 16, so it is advisable not to use it in this age group. After opening, use the product once only, and discard any remaining medication while ensuring the container remains uncontaminated. When wearing contact lenses, remove them before administration and wait for 15 minutes before reinserting. Store this medication out of the reach of children, and discard any expired medications. Some studies in animals observing long-term high-dose administration of this medication indicated a tendency for tumor formation; however, this is significantly different from typical local usage. The potential for mutagenicity is low, but there have been rare reports of sister chromatid exchange induction, necessitating caution. This medication is reported not to cause infertility; however, consultation with a healthcare professional is required for those planning or currently pregnant.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to protect it from air and moisture. It is best to maintain a storage temperature between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius.
