This medication is used to help patients with Type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar levels. Glimepiride and Metformin work together to effectively lower blood sugar, assisting with dietary and exercise regimens. This improves blood sugar management and aids in the treatment of diabetes.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered 1 to 2 times daily before meals or with meals. The dosage can be adjusted based on each patient's current treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerance, with appropriate blood sugar monitoring to ensure that. Treatment typically starts at a low dose, adjusting based on the patient's currently used medications and blood sugar levels. In clinical trials, the initial daily dose was Glimepiride/Metformin Hydrochloride.

Precautions

This medication may cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia; therefore, it should be avoided especially if kidney function is rapidly declining. If dehydration symptoms or severe diarrhea, vomiting, or fever occur, temporarily discontinue use and consult a physician. Caution is also required as there may be an increased risk of death in patients with cardiovascular diseases. This medication is not to be used in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes, acute metabolic acidosis, severe hepatic impairment, pregnant or nursing patients, or patients with moderate to severe renal impairment. Patients before and after surgery or with severe infections or malnutrition should also avoid use or be administered cautiously. Elderly patients at higher risk of hypoglycemia, those with irregular meal intake, patients engaging in strenuous exercise, and alcohol consumers should be monitored closely. While taking this medication, gastrointestinal symptoms (such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting) may occur, but these are usually temporary. Rarely, allergic reactions, blood abnormalities, or vitamin B12 deficiencies may occur, so any abnormal symptoms should be reported to healthcare providers immediately. Blood sugar levels should be regularly monitored, and kidney function tests should be conducted periodically. There may be interactions with other medications; thus, inform physicians or pharmacists of any other medications being taken. This medication should not be used during pregnancy or lactation; if necessary, insulin therapy should be initiated. Careful dosing and monitoring are necessary when administering to children and the elderly, especially those with kidney function impairment. In case of overdose, there is a risk of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis, and immediate medical attention is needed. There is a risk of hypoglycemia or other symptoms affecting driving or operating machinery, so caution is advised. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and care should be taken not to transfer it to other containers.

Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash accompanied by high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mucous membranes of mouth/eyes, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, breathing abnormalities with coughing and fever, jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, altered consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis, urination.
