How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken once or twice daily before or with meals. Dosing can be adjusted considering each patient’s current treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerability, and proper blood sugar monitoring should be implemented. It is generally started at a low dose and adjusted based on blood sugar levels. The initial dosage is Glymepiride/Metformin Hydrochloride 2mg/500mg, gradually increasing to 8mg/2000mg.

Precautions

This medication can cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia, so caution is required. Particularly, if kidney function declines sharply, the drug may accumulate in the body, increasing the risk, necessitating regular checks of kidney function. If symptoms of dehydration, severe diarrhea, vomiting, or fever occur, medication should be temporarily stopped and medical advice should be sought. Furthermore, if taken with other medications, the risk of side effects may increase due to interactions, so it is important to inform a pharmacist or doctor. This medication is not administered to patients with insulin-dependent diabetes or acute metabolic acidosis, or those with severe liver or kidney dysfunction. It is also safer for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid this medication, and alternative treatments should be considered if necessary. Elderly patients, those with poor nutritional status, and patients who consume alcohol excessively are at a higher risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis, so special caution should be exercised during treatment. During the initial phase of medication, gastrointestinal disturbances (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc.) are common and generally improve on their own over time. Symptoms of hypoglycemia include headaches, extreme hunger, dizziness, and drowsiness; if such symptoms occur, immediate ingestion of sugar and consultation with healthcare personnel are advised. Lactic acidosis, though rare, is a serious side effect; if symptoms such as muscle pain, difficulty breathing, weakness, or abdominal pain occur, medication should be stopped immediately and emergency treatment obtained. While taking this medication, regular monitoring of blood sugar, kidney function, and blood tests should be conducted to track health status. In case of overdose, severe hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis may occur, so if suspected, immediate medical attention should be sought. Caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery due to possible decreased alertness from hypoglycemia. This medication should be stored out of reach of children in a safe place, and transferring it to another container should be avoided.
