First, this medication can be dangerous for patients with impaired kidney function. If kidney function declines rapidly, the drug may accumulate in the body and cause serious side effects like lactic acidosis, so regular kidney function tests are required. If there are symptoms of dehydration, severe diarrhea, or vomiting, the medication should be temporarily discontinued and a doctor consulted. Second, there is a risk of hypoglycemia, so particular caution is needed if meals are skipped or irregular, if excessive alcohol is consumed, or if liver or kidney function is weak. Symptoms of hypoglycemia include headache, dizziness, fatigue, tremors, etc., and if these symptoms occur, immediate intake of sugar is required along with a consultation with a doctor. Third, this medication is not to be used in patients with severely impaired liver function, pregnant or breastfeeding women, individuals before or after serious infections or surgeries, and patients with severe cardiac or pulmonary diseases. Fourth, during the period of taking this medication, regular tests for blood sugar, blood tests, kidney function tests should be conducted, and monitoring of vitamin B12 levels is also recommended, as long-term use may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency. Fifth, there may be interactions with other medications, so it is essential to inform and consult with a doctor or pharmacist when starting or stopping new medications. Extra care is necessary, especially when taking medications that may affect kidney function or blood sugar levels simultaneously. Sixth, it is advisable to avoid alcohol during the use of this medication, as alcohol may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Lastly, this medication has not been sufficiently proven to be safe and effective for children, so it should be used with caution in pediatric patients.
