Precautions

This medication may cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia, so caution is advised, especially in cases of rapid decline in kidney function. If there are symptoms of dehydration or if taking medications that may affect kidney function, it is advisable to temporarily discontinue this medication and consult a physician. As there may be an increased risk of death associated with cardiovascular disease, the cardiovascular condition should be closely monitored while using this medication. It should not be administered to insulin-dependent diabetes patients, patients with acute metabolic acidosis, patients with severe liver or kidney dysfunction, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. Careful monitoring is necessary from the beginning of treatment in patients or conditions with a high risk of hypoglycemia, and caution should be taken with missed meals, excessive exercise, and alcohol consumption. Gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc.) may commonly occur, but they are mostly temporary and should be discussed with a physician if severe symptoms arise. Allergic reactions or hematological anomalies may occur, so any unusual symptoms should be reported to healthcare providers immediately. Regular testing of blood sugar and kidney function should be conducted to continuously monitor the effectiveness and safety of the medication, particularly in elderly patients or patients with diminished kidney function. Due to many drug interactions, it is essential to consult a physician or pharmacist when starting or stopping any new medications. It is advisable to avoid using this medication while pregnant or breastfeeding, and insulin therapy is recommended as a substitute when necessary. In cases of overdose, there is a risk of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis, so immediate medical attention is required. Caution should be exercised as hypoglycemia or other side effects may impair attention during driving or machine operation. Special attention is needed for children and the elderly, and regular monitoring of kidney function and vitamin B12 levels should be performed.
