Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Glimepiride and metformin work together to effectively lower blood sugar by complementing dietary and exercise regimens. Therefore, it helps improve blood sugar management and assists in diabetes treatment.
This medication is administered 1 to 2 times daily right before or with meals. The dosage can be adjusted based on each patient’s current therapy, efficacy, and tolerance, and appropriate blood sugar monitoring should be performed. Treatment usually starts at a low dose, and the dosage can be adjusted based on the patient's current medications and blood sugar levels. In clinical trials, the initial daily dose was glimepiride/metformin hydrochloride.
This medication can cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia, so it should be discontinued, especially if renal function declines rapidly. It is important to temporarily stop administration and consult a physician in situations that may affect kidney function, such as symptoms of dehydration, severe infections, or before and after surgery. This medication should not be used in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes, acute metabolic acidosis, or severe liver or kidney dysfunction. It is also safest for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid this medication, and if necessary, switch to insulin therapy. There is a risk of hypoglycemia with this medication, so patients with irregular meals, excessive exercise, high alcohol consumption, the elderly, or those with poor liver function should be particularly cautious. Gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc.) may occur at the beginning of treatment, but they are usually temporary and may be alleviated by taking it with meals. This medication can lower vitamin B12 levels, so it is advisable to regularly check blood levels during long-term use. Regularly monitor blood sugar control, and if hypoglycemic symptoms (headache, dizziness, sweating, etc.) occur, immediately consume sugar and consult a physician. There are numerous drug interactions, so it is essential to inform healthcare providers when starting or stopping any new medication, particularly when used in conjunction with drugs that may affect kidney function. Exercise caution while driving or operating machinery due to the risk of accidents caused by hypoglycemia or dizziness. The safety of this drug has not been established in children and adolescents, so special caution is required when administering it to pediatric patients. Store in a place out of reach of children and do not transfer to other containers.
