How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered 1-2 times daily just before or with meals. Treatment should begin with a low dose, and the dosage may be adjusted based on the patient's current medications and blood sugar levels. Precautions

This medication may cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia, so caution is needed. Particularly, if kidney function declines rapidly, metformin may accumulate in the body, increasing the risk of lactic acidosis. It is advisable to temporarily suspend medication and consult with a doctor if symptoms of dehydration occur. Care should also be taken when administered with other medications that can affect kidney function. Excessive alcohol intake, liver dysfunction, poorly controlled diabetes, prolonged fasting, and other factors can also pose risks. This medication should not be administered to patients with insulin-dependent diabetes or acute metabolic acidosis. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also avoid use, and it is not administered to those with severe liver or kidney dysfunction. During the initial use of the medication, there is a high risk of hypoglycemia, so meals should be scheduled regularly and monitored carefully. Gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc.) may occur, and these symptoms are usually temporary. If allergic reactions occur, the physician should be notified immediately, and rare blood disorders or vitamin B12 deficiency can also occur, necessitating regular check-ups. Blood sugar control status should be regularly monitored, and excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided during medication use. Furthermore, there may be interactions with other medications, so all medications currently being taken should be disclosed to healthcare professionals. In case of overdose, hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis may occur, requiring immediate medical assistance. The elderly may need dosage adjustments and regular renal function tests due to decreased kidney function. This medication has not established safety and efficacy for children, so caution is recommended, and one should be careful when driving or operating machinery due to potential hypoglycemia or impaired agility.
