Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is prescribed to assist in blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes using a combination of Glimepiride and Metformin. When taken alongside dietary and exercise regimens, it can effectively manage blood sugar levels. This helps to improve blood sugar control capabilities, aiding in diabetes treatment.
This medication is administered 1 to 2 times a day just before or with meals. Dosages may be adjusted based on each patient's current therapy, efficacy, and tolerance, requiring proper blood sugar monitoring. Generally, treatment is started at low doses and the dosage can be adjusted based on the patient's current medications and blood sugar levels. In clinical trials, the initial daily dose was Glimepiride/Metformin Hydrochloride
This medication can cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia; therefore, if there is a rapid deterioration in kidney function or signs of dehydration, usage should be temporarily suspended, and a doctor should be consulted. Additionally, there may be an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, so attention to heart health is necessary while taking this medication. Patients with insulin-dependent diabetes, acute metabolic acidosis, severe liver or kidney impairment, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication. Particular attention is needed for the elderly, malnourished individuals, those with irregular eating habits, and excessive alcohol consumption regarding the risk of hypoglycemia, and immediate action should be taken if hypoglycemic symptoms occur. Initially, gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc.) may appear, but these are generally temporary and can be alleviated by taking the medication with meals. This medication may decrease vitamin B12 levels; therefore, regular monitoring of vitamin B12 concentration is advisable during long-term use. Drug interactions may occur, so if there are other medications being taken, it is essential to inform the doctor or pharmacist. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should receive insulin therapy instead of this medication for safety. In case of overdose, hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis may occur; hence, do not change or discontinue your dosage without a doctor's advice and consult medical personnel immediately if any unusual symptoms appear. Be cautious of potential accidents due to hypoglycemia or reduced agility when driving or operating machinery. Keep out of the reach of children and do not transfer to other containers.
