Precautions

This drug should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to this drug, its ingredients, or benzimidazole derivatives. Patients who are allergic to penicillin antibiotics should be cautious when using this drug with amoxicillin during the eradication of Helicobacter pylori. Patients with hypersensitivity to macrolide antibiotics should also be cautious when using this drug with clarithromycin. Patients taking certain heart-related medications, such as terfenadine, cisapride, pimozide, or astemizole, should not use this drug in combination. Patients who are taking atazanavir or rilpivirine should avoid using this drug. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this drug, as its safety has not been confirmed. Patients with decreased liver function, elderly individuals, and those with a history of hypersensitivity to medications should be cautious when using this drug. If allergic reactions such as rash, hives, or itching occur during treatment, therapy should be discontinued immediately. Regular blood tests are needed as the drug may cause abnormalities in red blood cell or white blood cell counts. Liver function tests should also be performed regularly, and the drug should be discontinued if symptoms of hepatitis or jaundice arise. Cardiovascular issues, such as hypertension, myocardial infarction, or ECG abnormalities, may rarely occur, thus requiring caution. Gastrointestinal symptoms can include diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, or nausea, so any abnormal symptoms should be reported. Neurological symptoms may include headaches, insomnia, dizziness, or anxiety, necessitating caution. Respiratory symptoms such as cough, pharyngitis, or dyspnea may arise. Musculoskeletal symptoms such as myalgia or arthralgia may occur rarely. Skin reactions such as rash, itching, or hair loss may appear, and severe skin reactions necessitate immediate discontinuation of the drug. Special sensory abnormalities such as visual disturbances, tinnitus, or eye pain have also been reported, and consultation with a physician is advised if symptoms occur. Urinary tract issues, such as proteinuria, cystitis, or hematuria, may arise. This drug has been associated with an increased risk of bone fractures with long-term use, so caution is necessary. Additionally, prolonged usage may lead to hypomagnesemia, thus regular blood tests are recommended. As this drug suppresses gastric acid secretion, the risk of bacterial infection in the gastrointestinal tract may slightly increase, hence medical attention should be sought if diarrhea persists. Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery as drowsiness may occur. When used with other medications, potential interactions may arise, so inform healthcare providers about all medications being taken. Particularly, when using with warfarin, methotrexate, or antibiotics, follow professional advice. This drug should be swallowed whole in tablet form without chewing or crushing, and kept out of the reach of children. In case of overdose, since there is no specific antidote, symptomatic treatment is vital. It is safe to undergo regular examinations and monitoring during the course of taking this medication as directed by a physician.
