This medication is used to treat essential hypertension and helps lower blood pressure to prevent cardiovascular diseases. It is also used as an adjunctive treatment for the standard care of elderly patients over 70 years with mild to moderate chronic stable heart failure, aiding in the improvement of heart failure symptoms. Therefore, it is effective in treating hypertension and chronic heart failure in the elderly.

How to take

Adult dose

1. Essential Hypertension (1) Adults Nebivolol: Take 5mg orally once daily at the same time each day. It can be taken with food. (2) Patients with renal impairment Initial dose: Nebivolol 2.5mg orally once daily. The daily dose can be increased to 5mg if needed. (3) Elderly For elderly patients over 65 years, the initial dose: Nebivolol 2.5mg orally once daily. If needed, daily dose can be increased to 5mg.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with certain conditions or diseases. For example, patients who are allergic to this medication, or have bronchospasm, bronchial asthma, severe heart failure, bradycardia, hypotension, severe peripheral circulation disorders, or severely impaired liver or kidney function may face risks taking this medication. Additionally, pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised against using this medication. This drug contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance should not take it. Caution is required when administering this medication to patients with chronic lung disease, untreated heart failure, atrioventricular block, diabetes, and the elderly, and it is important to consult a physician before taking it. Side effects such as skin rash, visual impairment, bradycardia, hypotension, headache, dizziness, dyspepsia, breathlessness, edema, and fatigue may occur with this medication. Rarely, psychiatric symptoms, bronchospasm, or exacerbation of psoriasis may occur. Particularly for heart failure patients, careful monitoring is necessary as symptoms may worsen during treatment with this medication. It is essential to regularly check blood pressure and heart rate after taking the medication. This medication may interact with other drugs, so follow medical advice when taking it with calcium channel blockers, antiarrhythmics, central acting antihypertensives, insulin, and anticonvulsants. It is safest for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid this medication, and it is recommended not to use it in children as safety and efficacy have not been established.
