This medication is used for the treatment of myocardial ischemia caused by coronary artery diseases such as hypertension and stable variant angina. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of hospitalization due to angina in patients who have confirmed coronary artery disease via recent angiography but do not have heart failure and have a cardiac output of over 40%, as well as risks associated with coronary artery angioplasty. It contributes to the prevention of various cardiovascular issues and alleviation of symptoms. Therefore, this drug is used to maintain cardiovascular health and reduce risks associated with angina.

How to take

Adult dose

Administer 5 mg orally once daily as Amlodipine, and dosage may be increased to a maximum of 10 mg daily depending on the patient’s response. Adjustments may be made according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For instance, it is contraindicated in individuals with allergies to this drug or similar drugs, nursing mothers, patients with severe liver dysfunction, patients with severe aortic stenosis, and those in shock. Additionally, caution is necessary when using this medication in patients with severe hypotension, patients requiring renal dialysis, elderly patients, and pregnant or potentially pregnant women. Various side effects may occur when taking this medication. Common side effects include flushing, fatigue, swelling, palpitations, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, abdominal pain, and nausea. Rarely, symptoms such as excessively low blood pressure, vasculitis, sensory disturbances, syncope, erectile dysfunction, dry mouth, dyspepsia, weight changes, arthralgia, skin rashes, and others may occur. Severe cases have reported liver dysfunction and allergic reactions. Patients with heart failure or impaired liver function should take special care when using this medication, and since blood pressure may gradually decrease after discontinuation, caution is advised when combined with other antihypertensive medications. This drug is known not to significantly affect driving or the ability to operate machinery, but caution is necessary as it may vary from person to person. There may be interactions when used with other medications, so especially when using it with grapefruit juice or certain antibiotics, antihypertensives, immunosuppressants, etc., it is advised to consult with a doctor or pharmacist. The safety of this medication during pregnancy has not been established, so it should only be used when necessary, and it is recommended to stop breastfeeding while taking this drug. It can be used in children aged 6 years and older, and its efficacy and safety have not been established in children under 6 years old. In case of overdose, there may be a significant drop in blood pressure and abnormalities in heart rhythm, so immediate medical attention should be sought, and if necessary, activated charcoal administration or supportive cardiovascular therapy can be provided. This medication has not shown evidence of increasing cancer risk or causing genetic abnormalities even with long-term use, and it tends to be well-tolerated in both healthy adults and children.
