This medication helps decrease elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apo-B protein and triglyceride levels, and increase HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It is used as an adjunct to dietary therapy to improve blood lipid levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

How to take

Adult dose

For adults, the usual starting dose of Pitavastatin Calcium is 1 to 2 mg, taken once daily. If the LDL cholesterol reduction effect is insufficient, it can be increased up to a maximum of 4 mg daily. The dosage should be adjusted appropriately at intervals of four weeks or more based on LDL cholesterol levels, treatment goals, and patient response. The therapeutic effects of this medication are maintained with continuous administration.

Precautions

This medication is used for treating hypercholesterolemia and primarily acts through metabolism in the liver. Patients with allergies to the ingredients of this medication, severely impaired liver function, muscular diseases, pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, and nursing mothers should not use this medication. Additionally, this medication contains lactose, and it should not be given to people with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders. If there are issues with kidney function or a history of liver disease, this medication should be used cautiously, particularly when used in combination with fibrates or niacin, as there may be an increased risk of muscle damage. During treatment with this medication, if muscle pain or weakness, or changes in urine color occur, consult a physician immediately. Urticaria, severe swelling, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, paleness, severe rash with fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/mucous membranes of eyes, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attack, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), profound lethargy, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion of consciousness, vision abnormalities, paralysis, significantly reduced urine output.
