How to take

Adult dose

This medication can be taken regardless of meals. For essential hypertension, adults can take 150 mg of Irbesartan once daily orally, with an increase to 300 mg if the effect is insufficient. The blood pressure control effect over 24 hours is superior when administered 150 mg compared to 75 mg once daily. In special cases (initial treatment, hemodialysis patients, elderly over 75 years)

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and neonate, especially during pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Patients who are allergic to this drug or its components, pregnant or nursing women, patients with severe liver impairment, patients with hereditary angioedema, patients with diabetes or severe renal impairment should not take this medication. Caution is warranted for elderly patients, patients with hyperkalemia, those with liver disease, heart disease patients, patients with decreased blood volume, and those with renal dysfunction, and careful monitoring and testing by a physician may be necessary as needed. Generally, the side effects of this drug are mild and temporary; however, symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, muscle pain, fatigue, dyspepsia, and rashes may occur. Severe side effects such as angioedema, hyperkalemia, hypotension, renal failure, liver dysfunction, hypoglycemia, and muscle disorders may occur, and medical personnel should be notified immediately if symptoms arise. This medication can affect liver and kidney function, so patients with liver or renal abnormalities should undergo regular blood tests and physical condition assessments. Due to its strong blood pressure-lowering effect, care should be taken when taking this with other antihypertensive medications to avoid hypotension or electrolyte imbalance. When taken with potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics, the blood potassium level may rise to dangerous levels, so co-administration should be avoided or done under medical supervision. Interactions may also occur when taken with lithium or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), so consultation with medical personnel is needed. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not take this drug, and nursing women are advised to discontinue breastfeeding if they take this medication. Safety in children has not been established, so it is preferable not to use it in pediatric patients. Elderly patients should begin with a low dose and use it cautiously due to the risk of excessive blood pressure reduction leading to stroke or similar risks. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, tachycardia, and bradycardia may appear and immediate treatment is required, as this medication cannot be removed by dialysis. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and should be stored in its original container as transferring to another container may degrade its quality.
