View approved original text

This medication is used for obese patients who do not respond to appropriate dietary or exercise regimens. It is particularly intended for patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more or for those with risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, or hyperlipidemia and a BMI of 27 or more. The treatment is used as a short-term adjunct therapy for weight loss based on calorie restriction. Patients should calculate their BMI based on their weight and height, and it is important to consult a professional before taking it if necessary. This medication is effective for weight loss and obesity treatment.

How to take

Adult dose

As Phenmetrazine Tartrate, take 35 mg orally, 2 to 3 times a day, 1 hour before meals. The dosage should use the minimum effective amount but should be adjusted based on individual response. For some patients, 17.5 mg once daily may be appropriate. The dosage should not exceed 70 mg per dose or 3 doses a day. This medication is administered for a short term (within 4 weeks).

Precautions

This medication must be used alone and should not be combined with other appetite suppressants, as this can lead to serious heart problems. Additionally, it is only suitable for short-term treatment of exogenous obesity. It is unsafe to take this medication together with other weight-loss drugs and is not recommended. Long-term use for more than 3 months may increase the risk of rare heart conditions such as pulmonary arterial hypertension, so it should be avoided. If symptoms such as shortness of breath during exercise, chest pain, fainting, or leg swelling occur, usage should be discontinued immediately, and a doctor's consultation should be sought. Since it may be associated with valvular heart disease, it is advisable to undergo a heart evaluation before starting this medication. It is safest not to take this medication if there is a history of heart murmurs or valvular disease. Patients with specific illnesses or conditions, such as cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, mental instability, or drug abuse histories should not use this medication. Children under 16 and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should also not take this medication. This medication can affect the central nervous system, potentially causing symptoms such as anxiety, headache, and insomnia, so caution is needed when driving or operating hazardous machinery. Diabetic patients may need to adjust their insulin dosage when taking this medication. Overdosing can lead to severe toxic symptoms and life-threatening conditions, so prescribed dosages must be strictly followed. Women who are pregnant or nursing should consult a doctor, as taking this medication may pose risks to the fetus or infant. This medication has a high potential for dependence, and abrupt cessation after long-term high-dose use may lead to severe fatigue and depression. It should be stored out of reach of children, and possible interactions with other medications should be consulted with a professional before taking.
