View approved original text

Essential hypertension refers to a condition in which blood pressure remains persistently high. This medication helps regulate blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular complications. With regular use, blood pressure can be maintained stably, minimizing the impact on daily life. Additionally, it has a protective effect on the heart and blood vessels, making it important for long-term health management. This medication is used for the treatment of essential hypertension.

Precautions

This medication may cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. It should not be used by patients with allergies to any of its components, those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, patients undergoing renal dialysis, or those with severe liver disease or biliary obstruction. As it contains lactose, patients with genetic issues such as galactose intolerance should not take this medication. Diabetic patients taking aliskiren products or patients with moderate to severe renal impairment should also avoid this medication. Patients with reduced blood volume or sodium may experience hypotensive symptoms when starting this medication, so caution is advised. Patients with renal impairment or those who have received kidney transplants should have blood potassium and creatinine levels monitored regularly. Patients with unilateral or bilateral renal artery stenosis should be cautious as renal function deterioration may occur. In patients with heart failure or renal impairment, hyperkalemia may occur, so serum potassium levels should be closely monitored. Special care is needed for patients with aortic or mitral valve stenosis, obstructive cardiomyopathy, or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy when taking this medication. It is not recommended for patients with primary aldosteronism as it may have less effect. This medication has a blood pressure-lowering effect that may cause dizziness; therefore, caution should be exercised when performing hazardous activities such as operating machinery or driving. In clinical trials, it mostly showed mild and transient side effects, with dizziness being the most commonly reported. Other reported symptoms include cough, headache, diarrhea, low back pain; however, serious side effects are rare. Rarely, liver function abnormalities, vascular edema, and allergic reactions may occur, and if any unusual symptoms arise, consulting a healthcare professional is necessary. If chronic diarrhea or weight loss occurs during treatment with this medication, this may suggest a gastrointestinal disorder, and a doctor should be contacted immediately. Taking this medication with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements may dangerously elevate serum potassium levels, so caution is required. When taken in conjunction with other antihypertensives, blood pressure may drop too low, necessitating monitoring. Concurrent use with lithium may increase lithium levels, leading to toxicity; therefore, co-administration is not advisable. Using this medication with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may impair kidney function, requiring careful monitoring. Taking this medication with other angiotensin-related medications increases the risk of hypotension, hyperkalemia, and renal dysfunction, necessitating thorough observation by healthcare professionals. Pregnant women should avoid this medication due to the risk of fetal harm, and nursing mothers should consider discontinuation of either this medication or breastfeeding due to potential side effects in the infant. The safety of this medication in children has not yet been established. Elderly patients may have increased concentrations of this medication in their bodies; thus, dosage adjustment and caution are necessary. In cases of overdose, hypotension and palpitations may occur, and immediate treatment should be sought if symptoms are present.
