Hello. Olmesartan Medoxomil and Hydrochlorothiazide are medications used for the treatment of essential hypertension. This medication is prescribed in combination when monotherapy is insufficient for blood pressure control. This allows for more effective lowering and control of blood pressure. When blood pressure is well controlled, it helps reduce the risk of heart or vascular diseases. Therefore, this medication is used to effectively treat essential hypertension.

How to take

Adult dose

1 tablet is administered once daily. The dosage is adjusted considering the patient’s blood pressure response at intervals of 2 to 4 weeks. Elderly patients should start at the lowest dose, adjusting the dosage carefully based on the patient's kidney function, heart function, concurrent diseases, and medications.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it must be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Patients with allergies to the components of this medication or those with certain kidney and liver diseases, or electrolyte imbalances should not take it. Patients with reduced blood volume or impaired kidney function, severe liver disease, or certain heart conditions should use this medication with caution, and their condition should be closely monitored. As this medication lowers blood pressure, symptoms such as dizziness or hypotension may occur, so caution is needed when driving or operating hazardous machinery. During treatment, it is important to regularly check electrolyte levels and kidney function through blood tests. This medication can make the skin sensitive to sunlight, so care should be taken for UV protection and skin care. Interactions can occur when taken with certain medications, so if other medications are being taken, it is important to consult with a doctor or pharmacist. Breastfeeding women should avoid this medication or stop breastfeeding, and safety for children has not been established. Elderly patients should start at low doses considering potential decreased kidney and liver function. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, electrolyte imbalance, and dehydration may occur, so immediate medical attention is required.
