Efficacy & effects

Improvement of essential hypertension

  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

Essential hypertension is a condition where blood pressure remains persistently high, necessitating treatment to prevent complications such as heart disease and stroke. This medication lowers blood pressure, thereby reducing the burden on blood vessels and the heart. It helps maintain blood pressure stability through consistent treatment. Additionally, it decreases the risk of complications and improves the overall health status of the patient. It is used for the treatment of essential hypertension.

Precautions

This medication may cause serious harm or death to the fetus or newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, thus it must be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Individuals allergic to any of the ingredients, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients undergoing kidney dialysis, patients with severe liver diseases, those with bile duct obstruction, and individuals with lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Caution is required for patients with reduced blood volume or sodium, as blood pressure may drop sharply during the initial phase of treatment. Immediate appropriate action should be taken if symptoms of hypotension occur. This drug can affect kidney function, so patients with impaired renal function should have regular blood tests, and it is not recommended for patients with severe kidney impairment. There is a risk of hyperkalemia, so especially for patients with heart or kidney diseases, serum potassium levels should be checked periodically. Dizziness may occur while taking this medication, so caution is advised during activities that require alertness, such as operating machinery or driving. This medication is generally well tolerated, with common side effects including dizziness, headache, back pain, and dyspepsia, most of which are mild and transient. Abnormal liver function may occur rarely, so it is advisable for patients with liver diseases to have regular liver function tests. This medication may interact with other drugs, particularly potassium supplements, potassium-sparing diuretics, lithium, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, so consultation with a physician is required if these are being taken. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should seek medical advice before taking this medication, and breastfeeding women should consider stopping breastfeeding or alternative options when using this drug. Safety for children has not been established, so administration in pediatric patients should be done cautiously. Overdosage may result in symptoms such as hypotension, palpitations, or bradycardia, so if any unusual symptoms occur, immediate medical attention should be sought.
