Treatment of essential hypertension and heart failure (left ventricular systolic dysfunction)
This medication is used to effectively control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. It can also be safely used in patients with heart failure who have impaired left ventricular systolic function and require combination therapy with ACE inhibitors or those who are intolerant to ACE inhibitors. This helps relieve the strain on the heart and improve symptoms. Therefore, it is effectively used in the treatment of hypertension and certain patients with heart failure.
Essential hypertension in adults: As an initial and maintenance dose, 8 to 16 mg of Candesartan Cilexetil is recommended for oral administration once daily. If blood pressure is insufficiently controlled after 4 weeks at 16 mg once daily, the dose may be increased up to 32 mg once daily. Heart failure in adults: An initial dose of 4 mg once daily is recommended. The dose may be doubled at intervals of at least 2 weeks, considering the tolerance of the patient.
Pediatrics: The safety and efficacy in adolescents and children under 18 years of age have not been established.
This drug can cause serious harm to the fetus, especially if taken in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Pregnant or nursing women, as well as individuals allergic to this drug or its ingredients, should not take it. It is also safer not to use this drug in patients with severe liver impairment or a history of angioedema. Elderly patients, those with hyperkalemia, mildly impaired liver function, or those with heart valve disease or cardiovascular disease should use this medication with special caution. Common side effects may include dizziness, back pain, and upper respiratory infections; however, these are generally mild and transient. Regular blood tests are recommended for heart failure patients as side effects such as low blood pressure, hyperkalemia, and reduced kidney function may occur. Patients with poor kidney function should be closely monitored for blood tests and physical condition, as there is a risk of blood pressure dropping too low or kidney function worsening. When taking this drug with other antihypertensive medications, careful dose adjustments and patient status checks are necessary as blood pressure may decrease too much. Particular caution should be taken when used with diuretics, potassium-sparing diuretics, lithium, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, as the risk of side effects may increase due to interactions. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not take this drug, and nursing women are also advised to avoid it. The safety and efficacy in children and adolescents under 18 years of age have not been established, and use is not recommended. In case of overdose, symptoms such as dizziness, low blood pressure, and tachycardia may occur, and appropriate medical care should be sought as needed. This drug should be kept out of reach of children, and it is safest not to transfer it to another container. Caution is required when driving or operating machinery, as dizziness may occur.
