How it is given

Adult administration

1. Cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation: Slowly inject the required amount of this medication into the anterior chamber of the eye via needle or cannula before or after lens removal. 2. Corneal transplant: Fill the anterior chamber with this medication until the corneal graft is removed and matches the level of the corneal surface. 3. Glaucoma filtration surgery: This medication is injected through corneal puncture to supplement and maintain the anterior chamber volume during trabeculectomy.

Precautions

This medication is an ophthalmic injection made with sodium hyaluronate. First, this medication should not be used in patients who have had allergic reactions to its components or to medications of protein origin. Various side effects may occur in the eyes while using this medication. For example, intraocular pressure may temporarily increase, inflammation may occur, and corneal edema or opacity may develop. Additionally, abnormalities in the iris, pain, itching, and vision loss may appear. Furthermore, opacity may develop on the surface of the intraocular lens, and since this medication contains phosphate, calcification of the cornea may rarely occur in patients with severe corneal damage. After surgery, special care should be taken to monitor intraocular pressure closely, and appropriate treatment should be administered if the pressure rises. If possible, it is preferable to wash or aspirate this medication after surgery. Before ultrasound emulsification surgery, aspiration and perfusion should create a space filled with perfusion fluid between the lens and this medication. Moreover, it is advisable to avoid cleaning surgical instruments with solutions containing benzalkonium chloride or other quaternary ammonium compounds. This medication should not be used in conjunction with a drug called hyaluronidase. The administration method must follow the prescribed dosages and usages for ophthalmic use, and it should never be injected intravenously. Before use, this medication should be kept at refrigerated temperatures and brought to room temperature for about 30 minutes, and it should only be used once after opening, with any unused portion being discarded. When mixing this medication with air, care should be taken to prevent air from entering beneath the iris, and slow and careful injection is required. When administering to the anterior chamber, care should be taken to avoid overdose, as overdose may lead to increased intraocular pressure post-surgery. During storage, keep it out of reach of children, avoid direct sunlight, and store it sealed in a cool, dry place.
