Treatment of mydriasis and cycloplegia
This medication is used to induce mydriasis by dilating the iris muscles for diagnosis or treatment, or to paralyze the ciliary muscles of the eye, producing a cycloplegic effect. This helps ensure proper visibility and accurate diagnosis during ophthalmic examinations or surgeries.
For mydriasis, instill 1-2 drops once. Alternatively, instill 1 drop at intervals of 3-5 minutes for a total of 2 instillations. For cycloplegia, instill 1 drop at intervals of 3-5 minutes for a total of 2-3 instillations. Dispose of any remaining liquid and the container immediately after use.
This medication should not be used in patients with glaucoma or narrow-angle conditions, as this may cause a sudden increase in intraocular pressure leading to serious ocular problems. Caution is advised for pediatric patients and those with hypertension, arteriosclerosis, heart disease, diabetes, or hyperthyroidism, as they may experience drug-related side effects more readily. If symptoms of shock or allergic reactions occur while using this medication, discontinue use immediately and seek appropriate treatment. Attention should be paid to potential issues such as eye irritation, inflammation, or increased intraocular pressure. Additionally, because this medication dilates the pupils and may paralyze accommodation, activities such as driving or operating hazardous machinery should be avoided after use. It is also advisable to avoid direct exposure to bright light or sunlight and to wear sunglasses. Patients taking MAO inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants should use this medication with caution, as it may cause a rapid increase in blood pressure. When used in children, careful observation is required as systemic side effects may occur; in premature infants, caution is especially important because of the risk of bradycardia or respiratory cessation. Elderly patients should also be cautious due to reduced physiological function when using this medication. When administering the eye drops, tilt the head back and pull the eyelid up to instill the drops, then close the eyes and press on the tear duct to prevent the medication from flowing out. Do not use solutions that have changed color or contain precipitate, and this product should only be used for eye drops. Take care not to let the tip of the container touch the eye directly, avoid sharing, and any opened medication should be used only once and any leftover should be discarded. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children, away from direct sunlight, in a cool and dry place. Furthermore, do not transfer to other containers to maintain the quality of the medication.
Weakness (shock), increased blood pressure (may include severe swelling or urinary issues in severe cases)
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may be sensitive to air or moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly sealed container. It is recommended to maintain a storage temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature. This will help preserve the effectiveness of the medication for an extended period.
