Lipid improvement through reduction of LDL cholesterol and increase of HDL cholesterol in patients with hypercholesterolemia (primary, homozygous familial) and mixed hyperlipidemia
This medication is used as an adjunct to diet for lowering high total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, ApoB protein, and triglycerides while raising HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed hyperlipidemia. It is particularly helpful in reducing total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia when administered alone or in conjunction with other lipid-lowering treatments. Additionally, it is safely used in patients at high risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia, considering various risk factors. This medication is used in conjunction with appropriate dietary measures and is administered when diet alone is insufficient. It is essential to identify and treat secondary causes, such as diabetes and hypothyroidism, before initiating treatment. This medication is used to improve blood lipid levels and maintain vascular health by managing dyslipidemia.
This medication is administered once daily in the evening, regardless of meals. The dosage range for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia is from 10/10mg to 10/40mg per day, and the generally recommended initial dose is 10/20mg per day. Patients who require less reduction in LDL-cholesterol can start with 10/10mg per day. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the recommended dose is 10/40mg per day taken once in the evening.
This medication is used to lower blood cholesterol levels to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. However, it carries a risk of muscle problems, so any symptoms of muscle pain or weakness should be promptly reported to a healthcare professional. Especially when taken at high doses, the risk of muscle damage, such as myopathy or rhabdomyolysis, may increase. Patients with an allergy to any component of this medication, severe liver impairment, or women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication. Additionally, co-administration with certain antifungals, antibiotics, antiviral medications, and other drugs that inhibit the metabolism of this medication in the liver may increase the risk of muscle damage, so such combinations should be avoided. This medication contains lactose, thus patients with lactose intolerance are also advised against taking it. Elderly patients, those with hypothyroidism, and patients with reduced kidney function should take extra precautions when using this medication. Those with liver dysfunction should undergo regular liver function tests, and discontinuation is required if liver enzyme levels rise significantly. During treatment, it is important to inform other physicians about the use of this medication and to consult with a physician before starting any new medications. Women planning to become pregnant should not take this medication, and it should be stopped immediately if pregnancy occurs during use. This medication may raise blood sugar levels in some patients, so thorough blood sugar management is essential for patients at risk of diabetes. In case of overdose, there are no specific antidotes, and symptomatic treatment will be provided. Consumption of grapefruit juice in large quantities may increase the blood concentration of this medication and raise the risk of side effects, so grapefruit juice should be avoided. During treatment, side effects such as muscle pain, fatigue, dyspepsia, and headache may occur, and if symptoms worsen, consultation with a healthcare professional is recommended.
