This medication is used as an adjunct to dietary therapy for reducing total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B, and triglycerides in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia while increasing HDL cholesterol. It is also used in conjunction with other treatments or on its own to lower elevated cholesterol levels in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication should be used together with an appropriate diet, and is recommended when non-pharmacological measures are insufficient. Before starting medication, it is necessary to identify other causes of dyslipidemia and treat them if needed. It should also be used with caution in patients at cardiovascular risk related to dyslipidemia, with regular monitoring of lipid levels. Consequently, it effectively improves total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol.

Precautions

This medication is used to lower blood cholesterol levels. Musculoskeletal side effects such as muscle pain or weakness can occur while taking this medication; if any unusual symptoms arise in the muscles, immediate consultation with a physician is required. The risk of muscle damage increases, especially at high doses, so caution is necessary. It can affect liver function and should not be administered to patients with liver disease or elevated liver function tests. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication, and those planning to become pregnant should consult with their doctor. This medication may interact with certain antifungals, antibiotics, and antivirals, increasing the risk of side effects, so it is crucial to inform your doctor about any concomitant medications. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function should use it more cautiously, and regular blood tests are recommended to monitor liver function and muscle condition. If unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness persists during treatment, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary. Some medications should not be used in conjunction with this one, so be sure to inform healthcare personnel before starting any new medication. There is no specific antidote for overdose, so proper treatment should be sought immediately at a hospital.
