Treatment of essential hypertension and blood pressure control
This medication is used in patients with essential hypertension who do not achieve adequate blood pressure control with the combination or single-agent administration of Telmisartan 80mg and Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg. The two components work together to effectively lower and control blood pressure. This helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications and improve patient health.
In adults, for patients where blood pressure is not adequately controlled with the monotherapy of Telmisartan, it should be taken once daily with water, regardless of meals. - The Telmisartan/Hydrochlorothiazide combination 40/12.5mg can be administered for patients where 40mg of Telmisartan does not result in adequate blood pressure control. - The Telmisartan/Hydrochlorothiazide combination 80/12.5mg can be administered for patients where 80mg of Telmisartan does not result in adequate blood pressure control.
This medication can cause serious side effects to the fetus during pregnancy, particularly in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Patients who are allergic to any of the active ingredients or excipients of this medication should not take it, and those with hypersensitivity to sulfonamide drugs should also avoid use. Patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function, cholestatic diseases, pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication. Elderly patients, those with high potassium levels, liver problems, or heart valve disease should use this medication with caution, particularly because there is an increased risk of skin cancer; therefore, it is essential to avoid sun exposure and regularly check skin conditions. This medication has blood pressure-lowering effects, so hypotensive symptoms may occur, and caution is advised if dizziness or fainting occurs. During the use of this medication, electrolyte levels in the blood should be regularly monitored to prevent and manage imbalances of potassium, sodium, magnesium, etc. When taken with other antihypertensive agents, lithium, various diuretics, anti-inflammatory drugs, etc., interactions may occur, so it must be taken carefully according to the doctor’s instructions. It should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and if pregnancy is planned, it is recommended to switch to a safer alternative medication. In the event of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension, electrolyte imbalance, and dehydration may occur, thus immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary, and treatment should be tailored based on symptoms. It is not recommended for children, as its safety and efficacy have not been established, and careful administration should be considered for older adults to avoid excessive blood pressure-lowering effects. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and should be taken directly from sealed packaging just before use.
